Instructor 1, Legends Martial Arts Hurst

Chance Burleson - Chief Instructor and Co-Founder

Master Chance Burleson is the Chief Instructor and Co-founder of Legends  Martial Arts Inc. Since the age of five, Mr. Burleson has been trained by his father Grandmaster J. Pat Burleson. Grandmaster Burleson was the first United States Karate Champion in
1964. Since that time, he continuously produced some of the finest and resilient Black Belts in martial arts history. It is from this tradition that Mr. R. Chance Burleson was raised. By the age of 12, Chance had won state titles in Texas, Oklahoma and
Louisiana, and participated in public demonstrations and competitions on a weekly basis. Chance jests sometimes, “While other kids were in  little league and pee wee football, I was fighting in a local or state  karate tournament.” Even though this may sound odd, especially in America, it has become a way of life for him. Chance started teaching  summer day classes by 12 years old, and at the age of 15, Chance fought  for, and received his 1st Degree Black Belt. When Chance was 17, he was managing the school and teaching full time. This child now has two grown children of his own; son James Pierce and daughter Skylar  Raine. His son, Pierce is one of the head instructors here. What began as His father’s dream, has become a legacy that has transcended three generations. At almost 50 years old, Chance has dedicated 35 years of his life to teaching martial arts professionally to families.

J. Pierce Burleson

My name is James Pierce Burleson and I started my martial arts journey with Legends at the age of four, when my neighborhood bully chased me up a tree! I have been training ever since, being fortunate enough to earn my 1st degree black belt at the age of fifteen and most recently, my 3rd degree black belt in 2021. The best part of teaching martial arts for me is when I see the behavior of student change; meek kids become confident decision-makers, and the most extroverted child will find the value in a moment of quiet. I am very grateful to be one of several Head Instructors at Legends Martial Arts, teaching all age groups with a special focus on our T.N.T. program. If I am not in the karate school, you will definitely find me poking around my vegetable garden, or taking an impromptu dance lesson from my daughter, who is a MUCH stricter teacher than I!

Nikki 1024x768, Legends Martial Arts Hurst

Nikki Mills

I started training with Legends Martial Arts at age 35 after my then 4-year old son enrolled. I’m on target to earn my black belt in the spring of 2024. I had no previous athletic experience when I started, and at that point was about 70 lbs overweight. I fell in love with our Teen and Adult class instantly, and never left. About a year into my training I accepted the role of Program Director, leaving my job in corporate America and never looking back. My favorite thing about what I do is connecting with our families and helping people along in their martial arts journey. I believe so wholeheartedly that martial arts can benefit any person at any age, and under any life circumstances. Martial Arts at Legends has changed my life in all of the best ways.

Ty 1024x766, Legends Martial Arts Hurst

Ty Puckett

I started martial arts with Legends when I was 11 years old. I got my first degree black belt at the age of 15 in 2011. Aside from Legends I have minor experience in many different forms of weapon fighting. I’ve been in martial arts for well over half my life at this point. I primarily teach the juniors classes, but I also assist with the adult classes and occasionally teach them. I thing I love most about teaching is passing on knowledge. It’s very fulfilling the see someone succeed with something I taught to them. I have a large amount of hobbies, from collecting various sharp and pointy things and things that go boom, to playing video games and tabletop games, but one of my favorite things to relax with is painting models.

Jaden Rogers

I Started with Legends when i was 7 and have trained, for 10 years, got black belt in 2019, got second-degree black belt in 2022 What I love about teaching is that, you have such a massive impact on the lives of so many people, and at the same time are helping more and more people stay safe and be more aware, while also helping children learn good life skills, that will keep them out of trouble in the future. It’s an amazing feeling to know the impact you will have on so many different lives. Going on seven years of playing football, Love sports in general, interested in software development, stickler for staying in shape, want to get to know as many people as I can and make as many friends as possible

Liam Heckler

I started training with Legends in 2017 when I was thirteen. I got my black belt in 2020 at the age of Sixteen. I primarily teach the 3-5 year old age group. I love getting to watch people discover something they are passionate about and and helping them reach what they are capable of. I am extremely quick-witted.

Instructor 4, Legends Martial Arts Hurst

Alyssa Joanne Pruett

I started taking karate with Legends Martial Arts at 12 years old and am currently a 4th degree black belt. I teach the Warriors and the Juniors. My
favorite part of teaching is  drawing out the amazing person hidden within each of our  students and watching  confidence rise up inside them as they master new skills. In my  spare time, I enjoy making music, drawing, and gardening.
